Notes: Since last we saw all you fine folks, we have both been horribly busy working/being ill/parenting/so on and so forth, but we were also really keen to contribute, so here is a new chapter to the story we started last round. Honestly, just posting feels like a minor victory! But we are also hoping to have chapter 9 finished by one of the later free for all days, so keep your fingers crossed for us ;) You can read previous chapters here on LJ, or AO3, or EF. Here are two manips for our First Day of this round of Seasonal Spuffy. Thank You to all the moderators for all your efforts to keep Season Spuffy going on all these years. It’s such a wonderful Spuffy Event. Thanks to all the participants for creating works for all the Spuffy fans to enjoy –
I Wanted to work with the theme of Fall as a symbol of the life cycle and transition. With this in mind, I really wanted to have a new symbol for Buffy and Spike – a new ring to represent their current relationship and a new era for love in their lives. Instead of the Claddagh ring I imagine Spike giving Buffy a Fede Ring – perhaps one that was used by his mother. This ring is from the period of 1850-1859 manufactured in England. A Fede Ring is symbolic of Trust and Fidelity – these traits fit both Spike and Buffy now and the events of their history as well as how they treat people they love. They’ve certainly had to go through many trials to finally get to where they are now.

In the nick of time, a quickly thrown together School Hard vidlet, inspired by my current Twin Peaks rewatch :-)
UPDATE: I’m editing my post to add a note that I didn’t have the energy for last night when I posted this, after my struggle to (more or less) meet the School Hard weekend deadline.
NOTE: The song is “Falling” by Julee Cruise from the Twin Peaks soundtrack. It sounds both romantic and ominous and creepy. I think those last properties make it very suitable for School Hard, where (let’s be honest) Spike is creepily stalking Buffy. “Are we falling in love?” the song asks. (Yes, it’s a question, not a statement. The “are we” bit is just not very well audible in the lyrics.) The answer as I see it is no, not then and there. Not yet. Certainly not Buffy, although she’s clearly fascinated and intrigued by Spike. Spike, on the other hand, is definitely falling for her, but at this stage it’s lust and obsession he’s falling into, not love. And probably he would have vehemently denied this if he’d been asked at the time. Still, this is where it all starts — the Spuffy seed is being planted.

Author’s notes: “One more oldie from me for this School Hard weekend.
This story is set during the summer between seasons 5 and 6. It refers briefly to both School Hard and Lovers Walk, but sets them in the retconned universe where Dawn was born into the Summers family.”

The cigarette flared against the night sky.
“Your turn,” Dawn prompted, propping her elbow on her pillow.
Perched on the windowsill, Spike blew smoke into the night. “First time you nicked something.”
Dawn giggled quietly. “In L.A. Mom was always at Buffy’s psychiatrist’s, and I missed my dance class. We went to Walmart to get school supplies. I stuffed a New Kids on the Block CD under my shirt.”
“Got caught, did you?”
“So grounded.” His low chuckle encouraged her. “My turn. First time you smoked a cigarette.”
“At school. Bloke from the upper form dared me. I got sick. Spent the night in infirmary.”
Dawn muffled a laugh. “Did you get teased?”
“Already the butt of the class, wasn’t I? After Dru turned me, I hunted down the older students and–” he broke off, covering the pause with another drag. “Thought you were going to sleep.”
“I’m not tired yet. Your turn.”
“First time you knew Buffy was the Slayer.”
Dawn’s smile faded. “Mom thought Buffy was having delusions, but she had really changed. She was freaky strong. I caught her lifting her bed to look for a shoe.
“One night, I was taking out the garbage and this guy grabbed me. His face was so weird. It was like a nightmare. And then Buffy was there, and she stabbed him, and he dissolved. She made me promise not to tell.”
He sat smoking. Dawn wondered how many times he had been the monster in the night.
“First time you knew you were in love with Buffy.”
He was quiet so long she wondered if he was going to answer. “Caught sight of her in the Bronze. She shone like the sun.”
“Yeah, but then you wanted to kill her. When did you know?”
“You were there, Bit. We were drinking cocoa in the kitchen. Angel burst open the door. Your mum pushed you behind her and stood with her bitty bottle of holy water like she was going to hold back the forces of hell with a garden hose.” Dawn could hear his smile. “I was so busy twitting Angel I didn’t hear your sis. She had me pinned to the counter before I knew what’s what.”
“You are such a masochist. You love it when women beat you up,” Dawn teased.
“Vampire. Evil.” He lit a new cigarette from the end of the first.
The front door opened and closed quietly. Willow’s voice and the Buffybot’s filtered up the stairs.
“That’s Wills home from patrol.” Spike pinched out his smoke and swung his leg over the sill. Dawn knew he wouldn’t stay, not with the bot in the house like a lingering spirit of their dead.
“Spike,” she called softly. He paused.
“We made it through one more day.” Let him be back tomorrow.
“Hundred forty-six.” He was outlined briefly in the moonlight, and then he was gone.

Hi! I have never posted to this community before, though I’ve enjoyed many of the contributions from others over the years. These days, I mostly sit quietly on the sidelines of the Buffy fandom, but I still love the show and the characters dearly, and seeing that it was the twentieth anniversary of School Hard made me remember a little something I posted a decade ago (hahahaha I am old) to a Livejournal community called adecadeofspike. When I reread it, I didn’t totally hate it, so I thought it might be fun to join in the celebration by reposting it here. Thank you so much to the organizers and contributors of this community for keeping it alive and thriving!

School Hard anniversary fic
Not something I could miss – the beginning of it all for the Spuffy-inclined amongst us. In honour of the occasion this fic is new.
Juliet Mills, daughter of Sir John, sister of Hayley, was in the film Avanti! in 1972, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. She later went on to play the role of Tabitha in Passions. Spike couldn’t have watched the soap in 1997, as it started in 1999, but I liked the idea of a little shout-out.
All belongs to Joss, but he did say we could play with his toys.
Rating – R for language (It’s Spike), but otherwise PG13.

School Hard mini-season
Ok – no time to write something new, but this very short piece written waaaaay back in the day for someone (name on story, I think) is set in School Hard. It’s all I’ve got that isn’t just one scene in a much longer fic with no relation to SH. This scene stands on its own:
