Rating: NC-17 for sex, violence, and, obviously, blood.

Word count: ~2800

Notes: So, this fic was inspired by an offhand remark made on the Female Gaze Podcast about how even in fanfic, let alone most canons, there isn’t enough acknowledgement of menstruation and how it would realistically affect characters’ lives. Menstruation, not Spuffy, is the main theme of this fic, but it is plenty Spuffy by volume ;)

Warnings: Uh, basically, if you think you are going to find this gross, you’re probably right.

Spoilers: Through mid-S6, although it’s more than a bit AU. Takes place after my fic Certain Dark Things

Summary: The things you most want to hold onto, the things that are most precious, are always temporary.
A/N: Written for seasonal_spuffy fall 2015 round. To look back, I realized that the last fic I’d written for SS was Certain Dark Things, and was a ‘verse I’d always intended to revisit. Coming around full circle, the title for the first fic in this series was from a Lucinda Williams song; this title is from a Lucinda Williams’ song of the same name.
A/N2: I find the question of whether a vampire can suffer from something like PTSD to be a fascinating question. From the beginning of S3, and Angel’s slow recovery, I would assume that it’s possible.

First off, many thanks to my flisties for their support and encouragement in getting back into the Spuffy fandom, and helping me find something new to say. Thanks to gillo for suggesting the perfect poem, and helping to shape the fic as a whole. And extra warm thanks to sandy_s and ayinhara for their lightening fast betas. This fandom rocks.

Now, the fic. I strongly suggest you read the other two installments, but if you want to dive right in just know that in the first story, Spike and Buffy meet in LA between S2 and S3 and start up a relationship of sorts. In Certain Dark Things, Buffy rescues Spike from the Initiative at the end of S4, where he’d been held for months. This story starts about 3 months later.

A/N: This is one of my fave Spuffy scenes and I liked the way the camera slowly panned them. From intent to murder to silent comforter. That Spike! He walks his own path and so does Buffy. A nice excuse to make a Photoshop action to clean up, textureise and present a bunch of images. Forgot to make an icon. And durn uploaded in order instead of reverse. One at a time add then it is. 28 images you scroll quickly to get one of those old time flickering films. :D Thans to Greenday who sometimes sound quite nice, for singing about our star crossed kids.
