‘Twas early morning in Sanctuary, and all through the place, nary a creature was stirring, not even the Valet. Well, almost no one. Two creatures definitely were doing more than just “stirring,” a whole lot more.

Two bodies engaged in a dance, their rhythm echoing a beat ancient in its origins. Blue eyes locked with green, hardly blinking, straining to stay open against the temptation to be swept away by the pleasure being created by their undulations. Mated by blood and love, their bodies joined, imitating the connection of their souls. Both needed to feel even closer, wanting more… more… more. As their climax approached, they entwined their right hands; just as they had in the cavern of what was once their town. Both almost could swear they could feel the flames ignite between them, like before, even though they could see no signs of combustion.

Spike fought the urge to let go. He wanted his girl, his mate, his lover, his friend, his wife, his partner to be first. Always first. He was and would happily now forever be “love’s bitch.” His nature demanded such devotion and attention; still his girl always battled him in this regard. Yet, in this battle, Spike always won. Just as he did now.

Watching Buffy’s face as she careened toward the inevitable, Spike knew he was the luckiest bloke in this dimension and probably a few others. Feeling her shatter around him made him quiver. He coaxed her through, before allowing himself the pleasure of release. Buffy collapsed on top of him, caressed his jaw with her powerful, yet dainty fingers, kissed the corner of his mouth, and promptly fell asleep. So much for a good cuddle.

Spike snickered quietly, not chancing waking her. He recalled telling Buffy once during that dark, frantic time after Willow’s spell that she needed to be shagged good and proper and often. Now, they were, and he ached in all the good places, in such a good way. Their stamina amazed him at times.

Lightly running the fingers of his left hand up and down the soft skin of Buffy’s right arm, casually flung across his chest, Spike pondered how much his life had changed in the last few weeks. The return of his body, beating Angel to the Great Cup of Mountain Dew, deciding to stay in Los Angeles away from his love, “fake” Doyle sending him to “save” Dana, Buffy’s return, somehow falling into a Slayer dream, marrying his Buffy, gaining two sister-n-laws – he had experienced so many changes, surprises, and this was truly the first quiet moment where he could absorb all of it.

Spike couldn’t believe he’d been found worthy of such a bounty – the love of Buffy, the love of a family, and the blessings of the Guardians, the sisterhood of the Slayers, and the Powers for Good. Despite what Tara and Buffy had said, he still failed to understand why he, once William the Bloody Awful Poet, mama’s boy, then killer of so many, would be chosen as the Champion of the Slayers and Guardians. Although he said he wouldn’t question their decision, it didn’t mean he accepted it fully. Habits are hard to break, and scars take time to heal.

The moniker and attitude of Spike reflected his need for acceptance. Even as a horribly socially-awkward human, Spike desired great love, but never achieved it. He mistakenly thought Drusilla loved only him, and his heart broke upon learning otherwise. Still, he persevered through the brutal tutelage of Angelus, Darla, and Drusilla. Somehow he remained full of human emotion, driven by love. Tara had said Drusilla foresaw some of this; he wondered just what she saw.

Perhaps someday Spike would rid himself of the shackles of his past…perhaps. Until then, he elected to use one of AA’s concepts, “fake it ‘til you make it.”

“I can hear you thinking. What’s wrong?” Buffy mumbled in his ear.

“Nothing, luv.”

“So nothing’s got you running circles in that mind?” Rising up on her elbows, Buffy kissed his nose. “Seriously, talk to me. Everybody okay? Is it…?”

Spike quickly extended his senses and felt the rest of his family. He got only sleepy signals back. “They’re good, Buffy. I’m just…”

“Being you?” Buffy gently teased before looking thoughtful for a moment too long, her brow wrinkled. “Was that not…”

“If the next word out of your lovely, luscious mouth is good, then I will have to show you just how ‘not good’ you are. Damn wankers…the lot of them.” He sat up, drawing her into his arms, kissing the top of her head. Then, he laughed.

“What’s so funny?” Buffy demanded, mouth drawn into a perfect pout.

“Us. We’re quite a pair, aren’t we?”

“Well…”

“I mean, here we are, yeah, master vampire and slayer…” he began until Buffy playfully punched his ribs. “Pardon me, Champion Master Vampire with a Soul and The Except-No-Substitutes-The-Line-Forms-Here Slayer. And we both are really insecure, when we shouldn’t be.” Spike chuckled.

“You’re insecure? Really, ‘cause I thought that thing you asked me to do took a pretty secure guy to do.”

“You know what I mean.”

“Yes, I think I do. I get it. You feeling overwhelmed about everything?”

“Not about you or the girls, luv. Never about that. Still can’t believe you love me, and you married me.”

“Believe it, mister.” Buffy loudly smacked a kiss to his lips. She still tasted of him, and he grew interested in the possibility of another round. “We still have a lot of do, a lot to overcome. I’ve been having visions of things to come; things which will need us both there to get it done right.”

“Giles?”

“One of many things. But let’s not talk about Giles right now, okay?” Buffy slipped her hand south along Spike’s well-cut abs, raking his nails along that trail. After finding what she searched for, Buffy grinned like the cat that ate the canary. “Right now your wife wants you to exert your husbandly duties. Think you can handle that task?”

Snarling low, Spike grabbed her shoulders and flipped her onto her back. Rising to his knees, he seized hers, dragging them around his hips. After minimal adjustments, he once again showed his wife just how he handled that task.
